Happy Birthday

<sub>“Happy Birthday,” said the young man as he handed her a colorful bouquet of flowers.

Anna looked surprised, as if she had never been given anything before. Her eyes went to the bouquet, then to his blue eyes, and then shifted to the ground. She tried to hide a sorrowful and slightly pained expression, though she was failing at that.

Felix was confused, slightly hurt that the gift he had given her, full of his feelings, was being rejected. “You don’t like the flowers.”

She shook her head without lifting her face. “It’s not that. It’s just…” She scratched her head, trying to find the appropriate words to convey her feelings. “It’s just that… I don’t have pleasant memories regarding bouquets…”

She tried to explain him that during her high school days, she liked a guy in her year. One day, holding a bouquet of flowers and chocolates, he had asked her on a date. She agreed, completely excited that someone, that the person she had a crush on, had talked to her, not making her feeling lonely anymore at that wretched school. The day had come, and she waited for him in front of the cinema, where they were supposed to meet each other. He didn’t come.

When she finally saw him, she met not only her crush, but almost everyone else in her year, laughing and crying in laughter at the sight of her. She had been set up.
“I know, I know… I’m simply being stupid,” she said, trying to force a smile. “It’s nothing, and I’m getting worked up on something so silly…”

He understood, more than everyone else who would hear such story. Because of that, he simply sighed in defeat. His gift hadn’t conveyed the message he wanted to say. “It’s alright. You don’t have to accept them…” He rubbed his neck, feeling awkward and rejected. “Next year, I’ll give you something else, I su-“

“I didn’t mean it like that!” She interrupted him, holding tightly the bouquet. “I’m just an idiot! I-I really like the flowers… And I know you’d never do something like that! Because I trust you, I want to accept your gift!” Her face lifted up, and she looked at his eyes.

His heart skipped a beat. Even if she didn’t really know the meaning behind those flowers, her accepting them was enough for him. It even embarrassed him a bit. He looked back at her, trying to hide his nervousness. “Ah… It’s fine… I guess.” A shy, relieved smile escaped from his lips. He hoped that someday he’d muster enough courage to tell her directly the message behind those flowers: I love you.</sub>

LOL, derpy corny scene is derpy. Or something like that. Anyway, it's been a LONG time since I drew Felix and Anna in a lovely scene. Long time as in TWO FUCKING YEARS. Damn, I suck.
For some reason, I notice that there are some anatomy mistakes or something, but I don't care. Just a note, she's not really sad, she's just surprised/confused/hurt/shy about the things. I just happen to FAIL at drawing expressions :/

<sub>I actually finished this a day ago, but I was too busy with inFamous 2 and the Pokemon Dream world being a bitch to me to upload it.

I've realized that I tend to color backgrounds with a mix of yellow and pink. Hmph.

By the way, all the flowers DO mean crap like I love you. In fact they are: Red tulips (Declaration of love), yellow tulip (hopeless love), Red carnation (love), white carnation (pure love), red chrysanthemum (love),white chrysanthemum (loyal love), daisy (loyal love), gardenia (secret love, "you are lovely"), sunflower (dedicated love), aster (symbol of love), orange blossom (eternal love), pansy (love), forget-me-not (true love), anemone (unfading love).</sub>
